There are now three declared candidates to replace Ken Kowalski as the Progressive Conservative representative in Barrhead-Morinville-Westlock after Barrhead’s Tim Schultz threw his hat in the ring last week.

A fire destroyed this garage and shop on a property at the north end of Whissellville in the early morning hours of Saturday, Dec. 24. Westlock firefighters were called to the scene around 1 a.m. Later that morning, the aftermath of the blaze was apparent. The house appeared to be unaffected by the blaze. Westlock County Coun. Maureen Kubinec has announced her intention to seek the Progressive Conservative nomination for this riding.

Egbert Stang is done talking about his time as superintendent of the Pembina Hills school division.

Egbert Stang is no longer superintendent of the Pembina Hills school division. A four-sentence media release issued late Monday, Dec. 5, said Stang's last day with the division was Dec. 4. It did not say if Stang resigned or was terminated.

The man accused of murdering his wife, a teacher at Dapp school, was granted bail at a hearing last week in Kamloops, B.C. Glen Lucier, a clerk at the courthouse in Salmon Arm, B.C., confirmed last week that Peter Beckett appeared in B.C.

The year-old investigation into a fraud allegation at the Pembina Hills school division headquarters is still underway and is not complete as was previously reported, Barrhead RCMP Sgt. Bob Dodds said last week.
