School bus after school bus pull into the drop-off loop at Whispering Hills Primary School last Tuesday filled with students dressed to the nines for the first day of a new school year. It was the same for students in the other Athabasca schools and throughout the Aspen View Public School division. Preliminary estimates from the school division show an increase in a number of Aspen View schools.

Kids sat with barely concealed excitement at the new Landing Trail Intermediate School (LTIS) playground.

Golfers could see at least a partial new layout at the Athabasca Golf and Country Club as early as this time next year. That’s due to the construction of the new replacement bridge on Highway 813 over the Athabasca River.

The 35th Annual Smith-Hondo Fall Fair and Rodeo took place this past weekend, which was also the centennial for the town. Aaron Letourneau is seen here being bucked off this horse during the bareback section of the rodeo. Letourneau took a few minutes to recover after hitting the ground.

One of the clowns keeps a close eye on Brody Maloney of Boyle, who just can't get the smile off his face while riding a sheep in the mutton-busting competition Saturday afternoon at the Boyle Fair Grounds. The event was one part of the weekend festivities at the annual Boyle Rodeo.

With gusty winds most of the weekend and a good soaking overnight rain before both rounds, it was a fairly good score that took the overall title.
