Hungry for a second bite at the Taste of Barrhead? Well here’s some news to savour – the event is back on September 28. “It’s a go,” declared Barrhead Public Library director Elaine Dickie, one of the organizers. “It was huge last year.

Local MLA Maureen Kubinec is “not happy” with the handling of proposed changes to the Persons with Developmental Disabilities (PDD) program. Kubinec told Barrhead Town Council she believed plans could have been communicated better.

There is a school in Barrhead that rarely – if ever – shouts its name. Many people walking nearby are probably unaware of its presence. It boasts no big building, no grand signs, no website and no brochure on its courses.

The beat of drums and singing voices could be heard coming from Main Street last week, as individuals gathered to protest the cuts to Persons with Developmental Disabilities (PDD) that have recently come to light.

Associated Ambulance is to move from the Emergency Response Centre to a new building this summer. The move is likely to take place in July and means the Town of Barrhead’s ERC will lose $3,000 a month in rent.

Tributes poured in last week for Bert Proft, one of Barrhead’s longest serving Town councillors, who has died at the age of 75.

For first-rate family entertainment, Barrhead is the place to be on Saturday. Organizers are appealing for fun-seekers to converge on the town in record numbers and make the 2013 festival a spectacular success.
