Dapp’s Levi Foster is a national snowboard cross champion. Competing at the Canadian Snowboard Cross Championships April 3-6 at Big White in Kelowna, B.C.

The Athabasca & District Minor Hockey Association (ADMHA) hosted its annual awards on April 11 at the Athabasca Regional Multiplex. Below is a full listing of award winners.

Ethan Sakowich, 15, of Athabasca has been chosen to play for the northwest division team in the Alberta Cup. The northwest team is one of eight zone teams that will complete in the ATB Alberta Cup in Strathmore from April 24–27.

Athabasca will be represented in the Northern Alberta Curling Association (NACA)-hosted provincial competition at the Garson Curling Club in Edmonton in October by a women’s curling team.

For the last 25 years students from Barrhead Elementary School have been participating in the Edmonton Journal Indoor Games, the premier track event for elementary aged athletes in the province.

After a long winter, the Barrhead skateboard park is showing its wear. The ramps and jumps, which sit in what used to be the town’s tennis courts, have seen better days. However the facility won’t stay this way for long.

The rivalry between Westlock and Barrhead will return to the diamond this summer with the Barrhead Orioles returning to challenge the Westlock Red Lions for area baseball supremacy.

Teams in the Westlock Minor Hockey Association saw some significant successes this year both at the league level and in provincial tournaments.

With basketball over and track and field not yet started, it’s badminton’s time to shine. At R.F. Staples, the badminton team gearing up for the April 14 conference tournament in Westlock consists of 33 athletes, said coach Jon Radke.

Athabasca’s Max Elgert, 15, attended the Haywood Ski Nationals in Corner Brook, Newfoundland from March 15–22 and placed fifth in Canada in the sprint skate event for his age group.
