The Westlock Warriors suffered a “minor setback” in their semifinal series in the North Central Hockey League last Sunday night with a 9-2 loss against the Devon Barons.

It was a golden weekend for two Westlock hockey players as they helped Zone 5 win the peewee hockey tournament at the Alberta Winter Games in Banff.

Two members of the Athabasca Weightlifting Club travelled to Red Deer on Feb. 1 to compete in the Hokkaido Cup, the first Alberta Weightlifting Association event of 2014.

Despite an early lead and a strong penalty kill, the Athabasca Aces fell to the Drayton Valley Wildcats 5-4 in overtime last Saturday to be eliminated from the North Central Hockey League (NCHL) playoffs.

They’re through. A tight-fought 4-3 home-ice win over the Morinville Kings on Feb. 8 has sent the Westlock senior ‘AA’ Warriors through to the North Central Hockey League semifinals.

It took a lot of work cleaning up the trails after a month of unusual weather, but the Pembina Driftbusters got things straight in time for the annual poker rally last weekend.
