Two members of the Athabasca Weightlifting Club travelled to Red Deer on Feb. 1 to compete in the Hokkaido Cup, the first Alberta Weightlifting Association event of 2014.

Despite an early lead and a strong penalty kill, the Athabasca Aces fell to the Drayton Valley Wildcats 5-4 in overtime last Saturday to be eliminated from the North Central Hockey League (NCHL) playoffs.

The Barrhead Figure Skating Club has been keeping its skaters busy, and will continue to do so as several members prepare for a number of events in the months to come.

The Barrhead Steelers took on the Innisfail Kinsmen Flyers last Friday, and came out triumphant despite a rocky third period. The Steelers were on fire in the first, wasting no time bringing on the heat.

It was not the kind of weekend either Westlock team wanted to have. Competing in the 2014 edition of the W.J. Kallal Memorial tournament at Saint Mary, both the Saint Mary senior Sharks and the R.F.

They’re through. A tight-fought 4-3 home-ice win over the Morinville Kings on Feb. 8 has sent the Westlock senior ‘AA’ Warriors through to the North Central Hockey League semifinals.
