R.F. Staples School wrestler Haley Heffel competed at the Juvenile Women’s 65-kilogram division at the World Cadets Juvenile Games in Serbia on Aug. 19-24.

Westlock has a new set of golf club champions. Following two days of action at the Westlock Golf Club on Sept. 7-8, two repeat winners and one first-time winner emerged from the 71-person field.

It didn’t take long for Barrhead Composite’s senior Gryphon girls volleyball team to show off what they’ve got. The girls went undefeated in their first tournament of the year in Barrhead over the weekend, claiming first place.

The Edwin Parr Composite High School Pacers obliterated the opposing football team, Vegreville Vortex, last Friday in a home game — the Pacers’ first in the regular season. The Pacers won 56-0.

Tryouts for the North Central Bulls AA hockey club Aug. 24–25 “went pretty darned good,” according to principal coordinator Terry Lovelace.

Though the Edwin Parr Composite (EPC) Pacers football team lost an exhibition game against the Whitecourt Cats last Thursday, head coach Pete Burden said the game was a good proving ground for the Pacers’ new linebacking core and offence package.

For its fourth year running, there will be some changes in Barrhead’s annual Queen of Hearts Triathlon. The event, which is specifically for women, will take place Saturday, Sept. 21. Last year about 76 ladies faced the triathlon challenge.

It’s been a busy summer for two horseshoe lovers from Neerlandia. Alvin and Irene Nanninga have been traveling the province, country, and even the United States to compete in various horseshoe championships.
