After a monumental comeback in their semifinal, the St. Mary senior boys basketball team simply ran out of gas en route to a second-place finish at the North Central 1A zone tournament over the weekend.

The Barrhead Seniors Gryphons have been waiting all year for this opportunity. They wanted to show the rest of the competition they are best team in Alberta’s North Central Zone.

My Saturday workload was light, however much I pretended otherwise. The only job was a photo of gift baskets put together by Neerlandia Christian Public School children. They were to be auctioned off in a fundraiser.

The Athabasca Purple Panthers won bronze at the Investors Group Senior B Womenís Hockey Provincial Championships last weekend.

The Predators are on to provincials. Edwin Parr Compositeís senior girls basketball team won the zone championships on the weekend in Edson, and their gold medals are also tickets to this weekendís provincial championships in Strathmore.

The girls battled it out on March 4, but the Rochester School girls basketball team came out on top for the win.

The slopes at Tawatinaw Valley Alpine resort were plastered with fresh pow, sunshine, classic rock ‘n’ roll and a stream of children wearing neon coloured snowsuits last weekend.

The Atom ‘A’ Warriors are heading to Provincial ‘B’ Championships in Fairview on March 14-16. The team earned the provincial berth after beating Calahoo 8-5 on Feb. 24 to claim the two-game series.

Boyleís Millview Recreation Complex was the site of a Critter infestation last Thursday. The 790 CFCW Critters hockey team was in Boyle for a game against local oldtimers on Feb. 28.
