The Boyle Blazers midget team opened their 2012-13 season with a pair of losses at the Millview Recreation Complex last weekend. On Friday the team was home to St. Paul in a tight game that ultimately ended up as a 4-2 loss.

After a strong start and a spectacular finish, the Westlock Thunderbirds football team came to a well-earned 16-13 victory over the Vermilion Marauders last Friday night.

The Westlock Thunderbirds senior boys volleyball team went undefeated to claim a gold medal at a tournament in Athabasca last weekend.

Senior high volleyball teams from around the region gathered at the Athabasca Regional Multiplex last weekend as Edwin Parr Composite hosted their annual tournament. The home teams did quite well, as both the EPC boys and girls won bronze.

Playing in what some may call classic football weather, the Athabasca Pacers handed the Vegreville Vortex a 42-22 defeat last Friday.

The boy’s and girl’s senior Jaguars played a hard-fought tournament over the weekend, earning themselves a second and third place. The girls played three games in round-robin against Clyde, Athabasca and Legal.

All 23 members of the Barrhead Atom teams will be sporting brand new jerseys thanks to Jonathan Sutherland’s winning entry to DuPont Pioneer’s Hockey Jersey Bonanza.

Hockey season in Westlock has started with the annual I Love Hockey event on Saturday. The event is designed for the Initiation division and is the perfect way for them to ease into hockey and learn some basic skills in the process.

Westlock’s Thunderbirds football team wasn’t a very nice guest when they travelled to Vegreville last Thursday to take on the Vortex.

The boy’s senior Gryphon volleyball team will be launching themselves into a hard fought battle this Thursday, but the challenge won’t come from an opposing school.
