The Barrhead ‘AA’ Midget Steelers lost 3-2 in Game 2 of their provincial playdowns on Feb. 9 against the St. Alberta Crusaders, but quickly got over the loss in time for their game against the Morinville Warriors on Feb. 11.

Fun, friendship and fundraising were the hallmarks of the Oilmens Bonspiel last weekend. The event was held at the Athabasca Regional Multiplex beginning last Friday, continuing on Saturday and finishing up with the championship games on Sunday.

The Athabasca Aces played their last game of the season on Saturday, but it was a memorable one.

The St. Mary Sharks boys basketball team lost the bronze-medal match at last weekend’s home tournament, but coach Darcy Romanuik said he’s still pleased with their level of play. Eight teams played in the 25th W.J.

A local wrestler brought home a silver medal from a tournament last weekend, and says if she hadn’t suffered a concussion during the match she would have won the gold.

A small team did not stop the Westlock Wrestling Club from bringing home three medals from two tournaments at the Butterdome in Edmonton on Feb. 5. The club sent 10 wrestlers, and came home with two golds and one silver, said coach Jessie Norton.

A Westlock taekwondo athlete has done her town and province proud by bringing home a bronze medal from a national competition. Kiana Hein, 12, was in Winnipeg for the 2011 Canadian National Championships on Jan.

This year’s Edwin Parr Composite Cheerfest was bigger and better than ever.

The second round of the provincial playdowns got off to a rough start for the Athabasca Peewee ‘A’ Hawks.

Last time the Barrhead Midget ‘AA’ Steelers squared off against division rivals St. Albert Crusaders on Jan. 7, it was a no-contest matchup. On Friday, the Crusaders came back to Barrhead for Game 1 of their Provincial Playdown series.
