At least twice over the last several years, Athabasca University (AU) has called the Athabasca community into action.

Hearty thanks and congratulations to municipal officials and volunteers in Calling Lake and Athabasca for their excellent work last week assisting evacuees impacted by the Wabasca wildfire.

To coin a Jim Prentice line “Math is Hard” and the truth is for many people struggling to make a living on minimum wage, math is hard.

Congratulations to the Barrhead Flying Club on hosting another successful event. On Sunday, May 25 the flying club hosted its sixth annual Fly-in breakfast and while I must admit I enjoyed my time there, it was a bittersweet moment for me.

Dear Editor, The pool situation has long passed the stage of lunacy. A few years ago it was determined that the arena was deemed unsafe, a cry went out that a new facility was needed, the citizenry united and the Agrena was built.

Dear Editor, I would like to address my comments in last week’s paper. The residents “are used to it” because it is already on our skyline (the West Power Line). Yes, I did say that but I meant to say, not all residents were okay with it.

No one here is against hunting, or quads, for that matter. One is an activity that pre-dates the foundation of our nation and the other is fast heading for similar cultural practice.

From the very beginning, Aspen View Public Schools assured the Athabasca community that’s its plan was to replace Edwin Parr Composite with something that was much more than just a school.

Congratulations to the students of Barrhead Composite High School. For the last two weeks students have been working hard to get their message out: don’t drive while impaired.

Higher education has become less of a privilege and more of a far-fetched-rich-people-plan-b-option in North America.
