In the midst of a municipal election, a new town manager has started work at the Town of Westlock. Newly hired chief administrative officer Dean Krause began work on Sept. 16. “Right now it’s just about learning the town and the issues,” Krause said.

Exactly 51 weeks later, the Westlock Legion lounge has been flooded. On Sept. 17, water was found in the women’s washroom in the basement of the Legion building, said branch manager Avril Campbell.

Accountant John Shoemaker’s concerns about the growing population and the possibilities of increasing taxes in Westlock have prompted him to leap into municipal politics.

Current Town of Westlock Coun. Clem Fagnan will let his name stand yet again in next month’s municipal election.

Westlock County reeve and Coun. Charles Navratil is running for a chance to represent Division 4 at the council table. Navratil made the announcement during the Aug. 27 county council meeting.
