Canadians should expect to see postal service resume early this week after the House of Commons and the Senate passed legislation forcing an end to Canada Post’s lockout of its nearly 50,000 employees.

The federal government plans to introduce back-to-work legislation today, June 20, to end the lockout at Canada Post.

British Columbia RCMP are now treating the drowning death of a Westlock-area teacher last August as a homicide. "No arrests have been made nor have any charges been laid at this time, June 15,” said RCMP Cpl.

The ongoing strike action of the postal workers’ union will have a “minimal” effect on service in Westlock, a union official says.

Parents, principals, trustees and county representatives gathered at Jarvie School on Wednesday to discuss the future of the three schools along Highway 44 north of Westlock, which are facing declining enrolment as time goes on.

The quest to find a cure for juvenile diabetes took another big step June 2 when 115 Westlock walkers raised more than $20,000 at the Telus Walk to Cure Diabetes, surpassing the $17,000 goal.
