The Rochester Centennial Fair, held last weekend, was a celebration of history in many different ways. Alice Dzivinski (l) and Lil Fodchuk admire handmade quilts made many years ago by Dorothy Clow. Clow's daughter, Carrie Kushneryk, said her mother, who is 93 years old, has been quilting for as long as she can remember, and is still quilting today.

It’s a year of celebration for the Métis Nation of Alberta (MNA) as they prepare for the upcoming 84th Annual General Assembly (AGA), hosted by both the Town of Athabasca and Athabasca County, from Aug. 16-19.

Athabasca RCMP are still searching for Rhonda Cardinal, a 41-year-old female from the Calling Lake area who went missing on July 31. Cardinal is described as a woman of native descent, 5’4 and weighing about 170 pounds with long black hair.

The Town of Athabasca has lifted the water advisory that had been in effect from 10 a.m. until approximately 12:25 p.m. Friday.

The Town of Athabasca currently has a water advisory in effect and residents are advised not to drink any water directly from the tap. The water advisory applies only to users of the Town of Athabasca water system, not the regional water service.

A 53-year-old man died in a single-vehicle rollover near Colinton Monday night. Police say the male driver, from central Alberta, was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead on scene. He was lone occupant of the vehicle.

Athabasca RCMP are continuing their investigation into the reported disappearance of Rhonda Cardinal, a 41-year-old female from the Calling Lake area.

The Athabasca Regional Multiplex Sports Park Project is well underway. Multiplex manager Rob Balay said the soccer pitches are 99-per-cent complete, while the ball diamonds are at 85 per cent.
