For a small school, the Boyle Huskies senior volleyball teams sure gave some of the larger schools at the EPC tournament at the Athabasca Regional Multiplex last weekend a run for their money.

As far as the Athabasca Aces are concerned, the results for the coming season should be better than last year.

It’s the volleyball event of the year for Athabasca – the annual Edwin Parr Composite senior high tournament held at the Athabasca Regional Multiplex.

The weather was just right on Saturday, Sept. 20 for listening to the sounds of roaring engines at the Batt Lands in Camp Creek.

The Wildrose Rodeo kicked off on Sept. 18, running straight through to the finals on Sunday, Sept. 21 at the Barrhead Agrena. Cowboy hats filled the stands as many cheered on those they knew, and those they loved throughout the weekend.

In their two tournaments of the season, the St. Mary senior boys volleyball team has placed no lower than second after taking silver over the weekend in Barrhead. The Sharks were competing in the Sept.

It’s another win for the Westlock Thunderbirds football team. Playing on the road in Wainwright against the Commandos on Sept. 19, the T-Birds came away with a 32-20 win.

A pair of touchdowns was a breakthrough for team that has seen a huge turnover in personnel from last season.

It was the great start to the season the Boyle Huskies senior girls volleyball team was looking for. The girls came close, but fell just short in losing the final in a three-set thriller to the host team from Thorhild last Saturday.
