The Senior boys Gryphons went undefeated in a tournament at Barrhead Composite Friday and Saturday, taking home the North Central Zone title. The boys kicked off the tournament in a game against Drayton Valley.

Barrhead Steelers can’t stop winning. At the Agrena on Friday night, they thumped Stettler Legion 5-1 to extend their winning streak to seven.

The R.F. Staples Thunderbirds are flying high this week after beating the Barrhead Gryphons for the 3A girls volleyball zone title in Drayton Valley.

Barrhead’s own Darcy Miller has been named the World Senior Pro Steer Wrestling Champion in the age 40 division after competing in the Senior National Finals Rodeo at the beginning of Nov.

The Barrhead Atom Hawks dominated a home tournament over the weekend, winning every game and taking the championship.

The AA North Central Bulls midget hockey team has had a challenging season so far, and last Friday they lost another game. The team played at the Athabasca Regional Multiplex against Edmonton’s Knights of Columbus Colts and lost 8-1.

Athabasca will be in the spotlight next year as snowmobilers from across the province descend on the area. The Athabasca River Runners Snowmobile Club is hosting the 2014 Alberta Snowmobile Association (ASA) jamboree.
