Barrhead’s track and field athletes are gearing up for a jam-packed next few weeks, with no fewer than six meets on tap for elementary, junior high and high school athletes wanting to show their stuff. “It’s a big season,” said coach Gayle Lamothe.

So you think you can play volleyball, Barrhead? For three of the last four seasons, Barrhead’s senior boys were provincial kings of the court. They showed they could dip, dink, tip and dunk with the best of their peers.

It was a great day for heels on wheels for meals. Fourteen cycling enthusiasts turned out on Sunday afternoon to help Barrhead Food Bank. They arrived at the Family and Community Support Services parking lot loaded with food donations.

Edwin Parr Composite’s Pacers football club is on the field for their annual spring camp. Each year the team suits up for a number of practices throughout the month of May, well in advance of the fall season.

Three Westlock athletes came home with some hardware from the Western Canadian Tournament of Champions, an inter-provincial taekwondo competition.

Approximately 55 girls — including a handful from the local Tawatinaw Valley Freeriders — joined Olympic gold medalist Jennifer Heil on the moguls last weekend for the seventh annual Jenn Heil Girls Camp held in Jasper.

R.F. Staples students brought home a collection of shiny hardware last Tuesday, nabbing two golds, a pair of silvers and three bronze medals at the badminton zones held in Barrhead.
