Dear Editor, I write this letter to say thanks to the people of Barrhead/Westlock/Clyde for the super way in which they organized and ran the 55+ Alberta Summer Games. I write also because I have seen the two sides of organization.

Albertans love to travel, especially if it means we get to stay home. Among the water cooler conversation fodder recently released by the province’s Office of Statistics and Information, it turns out Albertans like staycations. We took 19.

The next general election is going to mark a bold, new experiment in Alberta politics with the transition to four-year terms for all municipal councilors and school division trustees.

Whether or not the three municipalities of the Town of Westlock, Westlock County and the Village of Clyde amalgamate into one single entity will ultimately be up to their respective councils and voters.

The Athabasca region lost one of its most fervent advocates with the sudden passing last week of Aspen View school trustee and former Athabasca County councillor Edgar Koehler.

Small towns take pride in supporting their local businesses. The independent shops are often run by family, friends, or neighbours.

To the Editor, Barrhead Leader. On behalf of the Calgary tennis players (four of us altogether) who attended the recent Barrhead senior games tennis tournament, we would like to make a few observations.

Dear Editor, Ball in our community is huge in the summer months, regardless of age. We have many other communities that travel here to play our local teams, and presentation is huge.

There was no going back. I had signed a waver that said if I died, it wasn’t the fault of the Barrhead demolition derby. I was about to drive a car around two barrels in a somewhat complicated figure eight patter...blindfolded.
