Those looking to refresh themselves with a dive into a brand new pool in Athabasca shouldn’t grab their swim trunks just yet.

Many local charities have been the beneficiaries of the spirit of giving this community displays during the Christmas season: Santa’s Anonymous, Coats for Kids, the Westlock Food Bank, the Hope Resource Centre … the list goes on.

While young people, and teenagers in particular, often get a bad rap for being a bunch of lazy layabouts, it’s good news all around to see several recent events or initiatives working to combat that image.

The holiday season is becoming more evident in Barrhead with each passing day. The snow is getting deeper and the nights are getting colder. The Christmas lights are becoming ever brighter, and more lawn decorations are making their grand debut.

Dear Editor, I would like to commend the County of Barrhead staff on their dedication to the taxpayers in their area.

Pembina Hills school division trustee Dale Schaffrick’s apology for comments he made suggesting students should “act less gay” to avoid being bullied is a step in the right direction.

Barrhead is richly blessed. So much goes on through the year, from sporting activities to arts and cultural events, from rodeos to fairs. How can a town so small offer so much? The answer lies with its people.

Dear Editor, In her letter, Kory Kopf has made several points that I would like to address: 1. Kopf stated that what is in the womb is not a human being, but rather a mass.

In its relatively short history, the Alberta Energy Corridor has accomplished some good things. The government/industry funded agency has a mandate to stimulate economic development in the Athabasca, Boyle and Wandering River area.

The town’s decision to waive the fees for using the walking track at the Westlock Rotary Spirit Centre is certainly a laudable move.
