Sadly we feel it incumbent upon us, in this season of great solemnity and celebration for all Christians, to reply to the recent column in the Barrhead Leader this past week (April 10, 2012).

The race to redefine Alberta’s provincial government is nearing the finish line. On Monday, voters across the province will go to the polls to decide which party will lead the province into the near future.

Let’s recap. During the meeting of Athabasca town council last Tuesday, chief administrative officer Doug Topinka produced a map identifying a proposed location for the new Highway 813 bridge over the Athabasca River.

Today is a very important day in local government. It is a day when ratepayers have a chance to talk face-to-face with elected officials, question them about their decisions, gather information, seek clarification, give praise, perhaps, or criticize.

Dear Editor, When I read the information in the Leader about the Aquatic Centre location, I was totally disgusted. The senior baseball diamond is not a choice for the pool development.

You can read about it in the newspapers, hear it on the radio, see it on television and the Internet, but there’s really no substitute for getting information right from the horse’s mouth.

In small towns all across North America, one of the major highlights for residents both young and old is the annual rodeo and midway.

With a new provincial election upon us, it’s incumbent on every Albertan who is old enough to do their civic duty and vote. There’s no two ways around it.

It’s election time. I’m so happy, I’m so excited. Oh wait … I can’t vote because I’m one of those non-citizen thingies. That sucks. Still, I suppose even if I could vote I probably don’t know enough to make an informed decision.

The community has a number of reasons to be cautiously optimistic about BlackPearl Resources Inc.’s plan to operate a steam-assisted gravity drainage (SAGD) oil recovery project 50 km northwest of Wandering River.
