Dear Editor, Re: The most recent proof that the Bill 50 transmission lines are a Fiasco. Albertans are a tough breed.

Dear Editor, Good day and thanks for taking the time to read this. Yes we’ve all heard that the remaining 253 Blockbuster stores are scheduled to close, but that is by no means the end of the video store in Canada.

Some people don’t make a big deal out of birthdays, holidays and anniversaries. “They happen every year,” they say. But even the most skeptical amongst us must admit that some things only happen once, and those events are always worth celebrating.

The vandals who placed chunks of asphalt in the water buckets at the Rotary Spray Park last week should be ashamed of themselves; assuming that anyone capable of such an act even has the capacity to feel shame.

Although many youths these days are portrayed as worthless layabouts who think of nothing more than eating and, well, being lazy, there are many out there who defy that stereotype and work tirelessly to better themselves and their community.

Well, they always say the third time’s the charm, and now it appears that that old adage rings true in my life. After two previous attempts at getting hired by the Barrhead Leader, I’m finally here.

Three decades ago, a Canadian tradition began. It stemmed from a tragic situation that would eventually cut one young man’s life short. At the age of 18, Terry Fox was diagnosed with bone cancer and was told his leg would have to be amputated.

After a brief hiatus, the community registration night will make a comeback to Westlock this week, and it’s an event both town and county residents would do well to take advantage of.

With the return of our young people to school last week, it bears repeating that all drivers need to be careful on the streets. Children are out in full force every morning and afternoon as they make their way to and from school. They may be walking.

When one chapter closes, another one opens. That’s the way it is in life. Nothing is ever really forgotten, but we move onto other challenges that take us in different directions than we had originally intended.
