Dear Editor For several days last week NDP supporters, members, and elected representatives were in mourning and also basking in the glow of publicity surrounding Jack Layton’s passing.

Dear Editor, The Barrhead Leader was our first corporate sponsor. From the beginning, they have supported our rescue group before it was even officially registered as a non-profit society.

Dear Editor, I’m beginning to think the main reason people die is so they can find out at their funerals just what great people they were.

Dear Editor, The Barrhead Play and Grow Society has successfully wrapped up its six-week program. PREP – Preschool Readiness Education Program – will start this fall.

The passing of summer does not just mean an end to carefree days at the beach or the cottage. It also represents the end of a relatively carefree summer for drivers all over the country. Granted, driving should never be too carefree of an activity.

Summer vacation. For students, it must have flown by. For their parents, it might have crawled. Regardless, school is back in session in Athabasca and the surrounding area.

Most fundraising projects are all about teamwork. Without a concerted effort, there are many projects that may never have come into existence.

Eventually things change. As I write this goodbye letter to you fine folk that make up this great little town of Barrhead, I am overcome by a sense of loss.

It is safe to say that they people of the people of Westlock dodged a bullet this week, thanks to a quick response from area firefighters in combating a tire fire at the east end of town.

A strange thing happened in Westlock last Saturday night — at about 7:30 p.m., the whole mood of the town changed.
