About 40 years ago Colleen Stein's parents built Barrhead Trailer Court, providing a start for young people hoping to get on the property ladder. It is a legacy she and sister, Diana, inherited once their father, Adolf, died in 1997.

In Barrhead Trailer Court, some tenants refer to their community as a family. They pride themselves on looking out for each other – one day it could be babysitting a neighbour’s child, the next minding a pet or running an errand.

Cari Blum is no stranger to the warmth and hospitatlity of the High River people. As part of Barrhead area gospel group Joyful Melody Trio with Colleen Durocher, and Joyce Dietrich, she has entertained in the community.

Students entered into a whirlwind of future possibilities last week at the annual GROWTH Alberta Growing Opportunities School Expo, held at Barrhead Composite High School Oct. 18. Spread throughout two gymnasiums from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m.

Barrhead Food Bank is more than 2,000 pounds richer. Last week’s injection of wealth came not in banknotes … but in the form of a mountain of pasta, flour, canned goods, baby food and other non-perishable items.

Around 90 people turned up at the Multi-Purpose Room last Thursday to study the latest swimming pool plans. The number roughly matched the turnout at the Sept. 26 open house on the pool project.

Forty-six per cent of people who responded to a Town survey cannot make certain trips because they have no transport. Many say they have missed medical appointments in and outside Barrhead.
