The annual Men’s Bonspiel Curling Tournament took place over the weekend at the Athabasca Regional Multiplex. 19 teams from around the region took part in the event which gave out cash prizes and sponsorship items as well.

The Athabasca Bantam ‘A’ Hawks played three games at the provincial championships in Three Hills last weekend, winning one of them and losing two to finish outside of the playoff round.

The Boyle Blazers bantam hockey team had a weekend they’ll never forget as they went undefeated to win the provincial championship in Three Hills.

Barrhead was well represented at the 2012 Edmonton Journal Indoor Games finals March 17, with 34 students running as hard as they could to bring hardware home.

At least one Barrhead team emerged from the St. Patrick’s Day weekend as champions after the Atom ‘A’ Hawks defeated the Redwater Rush 4-1 in front of a cheering crowd at the Agrena Sunday afternoon. “It feels good,” said coach David Schmidt.

Speed skater Tyler Chapman is so fast that by the time you finish reading this sentence he will be half way through a 111-metre race. At the Special Olympics Canada Winter Games on Feb. 29, he timed 14.64 seconds in the 111 m final.

When the provincial championships begin in Three Hills this weekend, Boyle’s bantam Blazers team will set out to prove they have saved their best for last.

This weekend, Athabasca’s Bantam ‘A’ Hawks will battle for provincial supremacy in Three Hills. The Hawks will join seven other teams (including their counterparts from Boyle) at the event.

Two Westlock-area athletes wrestled their way to the podium last weekend, both capturing gold at the 2012 Alberta Open held in Ponoka.
