Alberta Premier Jim Prentice and his cabinet will be racking up a lot of frequent flier miles from now on, after the government announced they would be selling off the province’s fleet of aircraft.

Re: Canada Senior Games held in Strathcona County. Dear Editor, I would like to respond to an article in the Sept. 16 Barrhead Leader, page 8A. It was not just the 55+ Summer Games – it was Canada 55+ Senior Summer Games. As I, Bessie Stevens, are a director for Area 6 and we are in Zone 5, I felt it is my place to speak on behalf of everyone that went to the games from this area.

Dear Editor, I read the September 16th issue of the Barrhead Leader and was again disappointed in the Town of Barrhead and how they are pushing the pool at whatever the cost no matter what.

Lately, a rising number of local organizations have put out the call for more people to step up and help.

A return to cabinet for MLA Jeff Johnson can only serve to help further a number of objectives in the constituency.

Growing up in Ontario I never had the opportunity to see, let alone photograph, a real rodeo. Sure we had the small versions of a rodeo where kids ran their horses around barrels, or those who were brave enough would climb atop an angry bull, but a rodeo like this, I have never experienced. Cowboy hats fill the stands, boots stomp the bleacher, country music blares for all to enjoy, and men get bucked off of horses, bulls, and the like.

Hello Barrhead. My name is Barry Kerton and I am a community reporter. It is a title I wear as a badge of honour. In my life, I have been fortunate to have a number of different jobs. I have worked as a delivery driver, a deli worker and a pressman, but the one I am most proud of is community reporter.

Our neighbours down the road in Barrhead are making news for all the wrong reasons. What a difference 40 kilometres can make.

The fight against family violence has become very public in recent years. While there has been a lot of talk, putting that voice into action speaks far louder and demonstrates a real desire to change things.

Town of Barrhead has made another difficult decision when it comes to the never-ending pool dispute between the Town and the County.
