The image of the everyday police officer is changing. In the past, children could have been too intimidated to approach a police officer; however, today’s police force is making great strides in an effort to become more approachable.

Dear Editor, July 7-10 saw more than 600 4-H members, leaders, parents and officials converge on Barrhead for the 13th annual Focus on 4-H. This could not have happened without the support of the local community.

Dear Editor, My youngest graduated from kindergarten recently, and I’m not sure how I feel about it. I hadn’t given it any thought at all until I watched a video put together by the teachers for the graduation ceremony.

Dear Editor: To the owner of the white, three-quarter-tonne, relatively new Ford truck that so elegantly tore up the grass at the Barrhead Bethel Pentecostal Church yard, it was your stunt on that Sunday night that was superb.

Over the last 30 years there’s been a concerted effort by legislators and the criminal justice system to crack down on impaired driving. Sadly, it doesn’t appear to be working.

It’s official. The fireworks have gone off, which means one thing for sure: Summer’s here. For many of us, the Canada Day long weekend marks the unofficial start of summer, which runs right through to the Labour Day long weekend.

Change is good, especially if it comes with benefits. Town employees who work at the landfill site are seeking changes to the hours and days of operation.

A few new programs will soon take shape at the Barr-head Food Bank. The local food bank continues to provide staples to those residents who struggle to make ends meet.
