The Barrhead Swim Club (BSC) is taking a new direction this year. For the first time in several years, the swim club’s executive has decided to focus solely on competitive swimming.

Kevin Berger – Leader Staff It was a golden weekend for the Barrhead Composite High School (BCHS) Gryphons as both the senior boys’ and girls’ volleyball teams won their respective 3A Zone Championships.

The Barrhead Steelers ran out of time. Fans of the Midget 1 team watched the final seconds tick by helplessly as the Steelers lost 4-3 against the Slave Lake Thunder at the Barrhead Agrena on Nov. 8.

Kevin Berger – Leader Staff The Barrhead Swim Club came away with a total of two gold, three silver and four bronze medals from their first meet of the year, which was hosted by the Penguin Swimming Club at MacEwan University in Edmonton on Nov. 2.

Kevin Berger – Leader Staff The Barrhead Junior Gryphons girls’ volleyball team hit their stride this weekend exactly when they needed it most — during the North Central Zone Championship.

Sixteen teams from all over the region descended on the Barrhead Seniors Drop-in Centre Oct. 28 to participate in the centre’s first-floor curling event of the season.

The St. Mary Sharks weren’t perfect, but the girls managed to score a bronze medal, while the boys earned a spot in the semifinals, but lost out to finish fourth Sixteen teams from eight schools converged on the Rotary Spirit Centre Fieldhouse Oct.
